Events that took place in the Jim Crow Era:
- Sundown towns which were all-white neighborhoods in the United States that practice segregation by enforcing restrictions, shutting out people of non-white races.
- The Second Clan was created 50 years after the KKK by Joesph Simmons. The Second Clan targeted Blacks, Catholics, Jews and foreigners
- Poll Taxes started in the 1890's and they were a for of fee in southern states that should be paid in order to vote. This was for white and African American males. This was intended to prevent African Americans from voting because most were still poor. The 24th amendment prohibited the use of poll taxes during federal elections.
-Jim Crow Era was based on the African American characters in song and legends from the time period.
- Literacy tests were a 68 question exam used on people of color and sometimes even poor whites to determine whether or not you can vote.
- Lynching was done during the Jim Crow Era as a way to spread fear among the black people. Whites that helped blacks were lynched as well.
The Jim Crow Era sparked a lot of social and racial change. Many people saw it as an era we would never want to go back to.
