A slave, beaten, underpaid, tired, and overworked...who am I you ask? I am Nat Turner. I believe God chose me to lead Blacks to freedom from enslavement. I gathered those whose thought like me and lead a rebellion in hopes of gaining freedom from our masters. A brutal fight ahead, but one I am willing to fight if it meant the freedom of I and many others. The south had to change and not only blacks, but some whites agreed with my ANTI SLAVERY beliefs.
Facts:
One of the most deadly slave revolts
DOZENS murdered
The cultural legacy of the revolt is still vibrant; the revolt remains the clearest example of overt resistance in the United States to the system of slavery.
At the end of the trail thirty slaves and one free black had been condemned to death.
The revolt had important ramifications outside of Southampton, as several southern communities feared that slaves in their community were part of the revolt.
Slaves showed no mercy
