Nat Turner Rebellion

A slave, beaten, underpaid, tired, and overworked...who am I you ask? I am Nat Turner. I believe God chose me to lead Blacks to freedom from enslavement. I gathered those whose thought like me and lead a rebellion in hopes of gaining freedom from our masters. A brutal fight ahead, but one I am willing to fight if it meant the freedom of I and many others. The south had to change and not only blacks, but some whites agreed with my ANTI SLAVERY beliefs.

Facts:

• One of the most deadly slave revolts

• DOZENS murdered

• The cultural legacy of the revolt is still vibrant; the revolt remains the clearest example of overt resistance in the United States to the system of slavery.

• At the end of the trail thirty slaves and one free black had been condemned to death.

• The revolt had important ramifications outside of Southampton, as several southern communities feared that slaves in their community were part of the revolt.

• Slaves showed no mercy
